The Elder Scrolls V: Alinor revealed by Bethesda (FAKE)

Wonder if it will be based in Skyrm? :D
Like Fallout 3? That engine was top of the line 3 years ago, now its a model T. New engine or bust.
You relies all the CoDs have used the quake 3 engine? now up to CoD6 its been so heavily modified now all thats left is just some similar code, Bethesda can easily bring it up to todays standards, its always easier to improve on a new engine then start from scratch
Its called the Gamebryo engine. And yeah they going to use it again.

My Problem with games using the gamebryo engine is, that they are never tweaked to such an extent that they feel unique. And also, take Oblivion for example. Yes I know you have hundreds of square KM rendered and the models are (sortof) highly detailed, bt take the last battle for example when the Gigantic gate opens. You get to save cyrodiil, with like 8 soldiers fighting with you. WOOT EPIC BATTLE EPPIC............ NOT. Same with Fallout3, last battle alongside the gigantic robot with 4-5 soldiers to accompany you.

These games (eventhough countless mods provide some help) really need to be "populated" more. More NPC's, more VARIED Locations, More things to do, no matter what the setting.
have to agree, thank Thank god for mods tho :)

This worries me:

"The game will bring “ fast-paced, easy-to-grasp action” to the series"

Looks like a lot previously complex games are getting this treatment. I do not necessarily mind these 'fast-paced' RPG's and such, actually I like many of them, it's just there are SO many of them now. I also love and miss the more complex in-depth systems some games have / had.

I like McDonald's, but I do not want it ALL the time!
+10

stupid ai?

in some cases non-existant... artificial idiocy would better describe it...
hey you got to admit the AI schedules where quite cool :)

Also think it's an April's fool.

Nothing on Bethesda's site about Alinor. Searching Google for Elder Scrolls V gets a bunch of old news (2006 - 2008). And Armor Games makes flash games.
explains why its coming out on the iPhone :p

ja no the ai was good, but in some cases, very rare cases it'd spazz out entirely...

Most epic mod for Oblivion was the light up windows mod, it added so much to the atmosphere!

@Tpex yeah i know about the COD engines and yes it is possible to bring it up to todays standard but Fallout 3 was already getting flamed for looking "shit" which leads me to think that the engine hasn't ages as well as the Q3 engine, which was a brilliant engine to begin with. All 4 Halo games have been built on the Halo engine, I just felt that the Oblivion/Fallout engine is not up to spec with the new boys on the block.

I was surprised to learn that the Witcher runs the Aurora engine from the original NWN. some engines are just built better i guess.

Brilliant news, I've been waiting for this for ages. :D

Edit: Scratch that, looks like a fake then... :(

Well I am glad this is fake.

Had fun with Oblivion, but Morrowind was certainly better in my books. As long as this progressive (should I say regressive) trend does not hit this brand too hard like it has many so far, I will be happy with the next iteration. I would like just a few games to be complex in a sea of "stream-lined" experiences.

I fully agree. I still have Morrowind, Tribunal and Bloodmoon installed, with some mods. IT was a less "guided" RPG than the likes of Oblivion and Fallout. I remember the one quest where I had to look for the dragon's tooth, when the sun shines at certain time to clear the way, the go up the hill and wait another certain time for a door to open. Just looking for that place (part of the Nerevarine quests) took me HOURS. If it were Oblivion they would have marked it on your map, probably made it a quick travel location, given you a compass, garmin and maybe even a luxury 4x4 with a driver that drove you there while you were sipping on some laté reading the morning news.

I loved Morrowind to bits, You had to figure so much of the stuff out yourself, you found clues just by carefully scanning conversations etc.

I have that quest memorised to a T. Nowadays I always find it without any difficulty. There is another quest though that is a pain to me. I think it's part of the main quest line where you have to kill the leaders of House Dagoth. Most of them are inside the inclosure in the middle, but there is one that's ouside to the southwest. There is no map marker and it's in the middle of nowhere. Every time I do it again I have to search for it.

Another thing I like about both Morrowind and Oblivion is the intro music.

@Tank: Afaik, Bethesda isn't working on an MMO, but they have said that there will be a next TES game. They said at first that they're planning for a 2010 release, but later clarified that it will be some time before a new game in the series is released. Zenimax, Bethesda's parent company was hiring developers for a MMO, but I can't find what it will be about. A TES mmo is possible but nothing has been confirmed.

Yeah dude that's the one :)

Morrowind had so many secret locations and things to see, where oblivion brings up a compass marker as soon as you get close to something. That's why I removed compass and map markers with a mod a while back, it actually helped a bit but it was still a very dumbed down experience compared to morrowind.

maybe I played it a bit late (in 2006 and then finished it after playing TES4 which was '09) but morrowind bored me, felt a bit monotonous, Oblivion is in my top 10 favorite games

This convo got me in the mood lol, so I downloaded over 3 gigs of mods for Fallout sofar, will see how it goes

YEah dude , I got that one by accident. I was on my Way from Vivec to Seyda Neen (spelling) andon the road, this guy just dropped in, and i'm like WTF. so you loot his corpse to get the scroll and read his story lolol. that was quite good. I remember Morrowind still ran like crap on my machine , so each time I did a super jump it would bring up like 50 loading screens which lasted ages. Man what a fantastic game it actually still is :)

I thought the world in morrowind was much more diverse than Oblivion - and you could fly in morrowind! (That pyramid city on the water - where as Oblivion every town was pretty much same ) I loved both ... just think Oblivion could have been so much better.
