The official Witcher 3 thread

i installed it, but its pretty much bare bones right now. i hope they add the "auto update" and "download resume" features ASAP.

regarding GOG, i don't understand something. I get the THEORY behind "drm-free". but what about practically?? how does it mitigate risks of piracy? i know that the pirates will always find a way around, but at least with "online checks" of Steam, it limits it slightly. this seems to dish up games to pirates on a plate

DRM free is about putting the customer first, all those so called anti piracy methods fail to stop piracy and are a hinderance to the genuine customer.

For those with the gog version, preload is now available :)

Anyone who has played The Witcher 1 will recognise this. Hype level at maximum!

how are you guys downloading the files? What i mean is, are you using a download manager? If so, which one? I want a good one that supports TIMED schedules. So i can queue up a lot and then have it kick off at midnight and stop at 6AM.

I'm using FDM (free download manager). Have been using it for years, sometimes there are issues with getting a plugin to work for Firefox, but I formatted my PC on Sunday and upon reinstalling both Firefox and FDM it seems to work perfectly. I'm pretty sure it supports scheduled downloads and you can also set the priority of the downloads which is nice. I did leave mine on medium bandwith usage through the night because my brother was watching Netflix, but the last two files failed and I had to restart them now. Other than that it works perfectly fine.

i played Witcher 2 quite a while back. do you guys have any recommended youtube "catch up vids" for Witcher 1 and 2 ?

Am I the only one that ordered a physical copy? :o

I've had mine pre-ordered since September 2014 from Takealot, thanks to the iGame guys.

In my opinion, the retail version is the best. You get the all the physical goodies and a GOG code.

Third time posting this. :p I also recommend Free Download Manager, like Wlad said. It's very good.

A retrospective by Elder Geek for those who haven't and aren't going to play the first two games before Witcher 3 launches. Or even for those who just want a recap on the story so far. Major spoilers obviously.

Reviews are coming in about 4 hours. I expect some 10/10's. :p

You're awfully ambitious in this day and time of kaka releases.

Though I have no doubt it'll be great, hence the delays.

The game looks great! Even Danny o'Dwyer and Kevin VanOrd seem really excited to get the Gamespot review out. The review embargo wouldn't be a week before the game comes out if it was a pile of horse****. :p

I'm not sure if it has been discussed yet, but what do you guys think about the most recent "downgrade" rumours?

Here's an article on it:

http://www.lazygamer.net/genre/rpg/has-the-witcher-3-been-downgraded/

The thread in r/gaming is honestly, so sad. I don't know why the major outlets are giving it publicity. This is the most retarded comparison I've ever seen. Cherry picking stupidity, at it's finest. You can't do a legitimate comparison until the game is out, regardless.

The game had a massive art style change. They also moved it to a new render, and removed the sharpening filter that was present in TW2. Some effects like fire have been reduced, but that is for optimisation purposes and doesn't bother me. The game looks great! In fact, a boatload of things have actually improved, like textures and animations. Especially if you look from the initial 2013 footage. Here's a reminder:

These shots below really show that there isn't really a downgrade, but a change in overall style.
Top is from the old Sword of Destiny trailer, bottom is a new screenshot from a different part of the game, color corrected and sharpened. This to this.

Another one, a new screenshot colour corrected and sharpened. This to this.

I like the new style way more than the old one.
