The official Witcher 3 thread

Damnit, now I have to wait the whole day to watch that video.

Haha, it wasn't that impressive though. Just a quick 2 minute video. The quality also isn't the best because it's footage captured from the game being streamed on an Nvidia Shield.

Hopefully they release some more videos during GDC.

First 15 minutes:
Wlad, I had to look. Only 6 more weeks!

Looks as if it's running on the older build from Jan. They said via twitter a while ago that they fixed the issue with the lack of tessellation on the brick textures. As well as improved the horse.

1080p download. Still waiting for the uncompressed version...

I just quickly skipped through the video, but it looks really awesome. The wait is almost over.

The_Imp_ZA 2 Expansions just announced:

Announcing Hearts of Stone & Blood and Wine, two massive expansions for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt!

Hearts of Stone will take Geralt on an all-new, 10-hour-plus adventure into the wilds of No Man’s Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt, where he’ll try to complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed.

Blood and Wine, a 20-hour-plus tale that will introduce the all-new in-game region of Toussaint, will take Geralt to a land untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.

For more information on obtaining the expansions, please visit http://thewitcher.com/news/view/991

I can't get that link to work at the moment though, so I haven't seen anything more than that post on facebook yet.

I think it was an accident, but CDP just announced two expansions for TW3, even though it hasn't even released yet. Can't find the info on their site either, anymore. Here's a screencap. Seems fair, at first I thought it was Day 1 DLC, luckily it's not.

Not so thrilled about how they tried to rename the Season Pass to 'Expansion Pass'. Still, if the base game is enjoyable, I'll pick those up.

EDIT: Price up on GOG. $25 for both. Very fair, in my opinion. Maybe they'll do a retail release of the expansion. Sigh, I can dream.

Two story-driven installments have been announced for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. Unlike the already announced DLC, which CD Projekt is giving away for free, these expansion due to their size and scope will come with a price tag and will represent "real value for money", according to CD Projekt Red co-founder Marcin Iwiński.

The first, Hearts of Stone, boasts a "10-hour-plus adventure" and ventures into "the wilds of No Man's Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt, where he'll [Geralt] try to complete a contract from the mysterious Man of Glass. Caught in a thick tangle of deceit, Geralt will need all his cunning and strength to solve the mystery and emerge unscathed." Furthermore, a second expansion entitled Blood and Wine will offer a "20-hour-plus tale" which will introduce an entirely new region known as Toussaint. CD Projekt Red describes the land as "untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret."

Speaking to IGN, Iwiński said the new area of Toussaint will look, "extremely cheerful and normal, perhaps even too normal during the day. However, there will be a big secret there." Hearts of Stone is expected sometime in October, while Blood and Wine is currently slated for release sometime in the first quarter of 2016. Both expansions will, of course, be available on all three platforms – Xbox One, PC, PlayStation 4 – with no mention currently of platform exclusivity.

That's a significant amount of gameplay, especially following on from the game's senior designer, Damien Monnier, revealing The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will take players over 200 hours to finish if they "do everything". Iwiński compares the expansions above to add-on discs, significant expanded upon The Wild Hunt. "With the development of Wild Hunt coming to an end, the team has embarked upon the creation of two new really big adventures set in The Witcher universe.

"We remember the time when add-on disks truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content. As gamers, we'd like to bring that back. We've said in the past that if we ever decide to release paid content, it will be vast in size and represent real value for money." Some of Iwiński's comments indirectly refer to the 16 pieces of free DLC that have already been announced for the game. When they were announced Iwiński has spoke openly about the landscape “steeply priced” paid DLC, and how these small pieces of content where being offered for free to people who will have just picked up the game.

The expansions announced today clearly offer something much more substantial, a point emphasized by Iwiński: "Both our expansions offer more hours of gameplay than quite a few standalone games out there."

I will buy the expansion pass regardless of the price tag. 10 hours is already longer than the campaign of most shooters on the market and that's the shortest of the two expansions.

I didn't actually see your post when I made my comment. 1 minute apart, damn ninja :p

Still, considering they're so long away, It would've made more sense for them to announce it at E3. Makes me feel skeptical that they're announcing it so soon.

This is going to be an issue.

CD Projekt Red said that all DLC for the Witcher 3 would be free. I wouldn't expect them to release DLC for free because I understand that game development costs money, however, they said that all DLC would be free. This is not going to go down well with the rabid Internet mob.

It's $30 on Steam:

There is a difference between DLC and Expansion Pack. They said all DLC will be free, meaning all small items like cosmetic items or an extra quest etc. They also said if they ever released content that costs something you will get value for your money. These are like expansion packs we used to have back in the day, e.g. Lord or Destruction for Diablo II, Blood Moon and Tribunal for Morrowind, Hordes of the Underdark for Neverwinter Nights etc. If people don't like the fact that they are doing 2 expansion packs after finishing the game, they should not buy them, it's not like they are cutting content from the main game and reselling it separately. The base game will already have almost 200 hours of gameplay according to one of the devs (if you do "everything").

You are preaching to the choir buddy. I understand how it works. I actually like DLC and expansion packs when done correctly.

Unfortunately, I also understand how the Internet works and I know that CD Projekt Red gave the distinct impression that the DLC would be free without making a distinction between "DLC" and "expansion packs". The optimist in me hopes that most people will allow this one to slide because of CDPR's policy on DRM, but if the past is anything to go by, it's going to explode and the Metacritic user rating is going to sit at 3.0 while the critic rating sits at 90.

Yeah, I don't think the real Witcher fans are gonna care. Most of the comments I have read have been very positive so far. Of course there will be people who complain, but that's their problem. Who cares if the game has a Metacritic user score of 3.0? I certainly don't and it won't affect my enjoyment of the game in the slightest. Like I said, they have said in the past that if they released paid-for content that it will he worth the asking price, which is exactly what they are doing.

Of course a poor user rating it won't affect my enjoyment of the game, but people use that info to decide whether or not to buy a game so a poor user rating can hurt CDPR. This is in turn can affect their ability to make excellent games without DRM. Maybe the backlash will not be severe, but I really think that it is going to be considering what they said originally regarding the "16 pieces of free DLC".

I don't know man, I really don't think the true fans will care. I guess time will tell.

The problem is that the "true fans" make up a very small portion of who will actually buy the game. The rest could be influenced by what the vocal, easily-offended, easily-outraged minority on the Internet says.

I'm still gonna disagree with you dude. I really don't think people will not buy a (possible) 200 hour game just because the developer is releasing 2 (entirely optional) expansion packs after saying all DLC will be free, which they still will be. They might not buy the expansions, but I'm sure anyone that is interested in the game will still buy it regardless. If they don't then it is their loss in the end.

I hope you're right.

Obviously I'll still buy the game and probably the expansion packs too. I'm looking forward to it :D
