The official Witcher 3 thread

More here.

On high, in the most demanding areas of the game, the 960 can pull upwards of 40FPS, and that's not even using the final build of TW3. I'm happy! So guy's with 670's so be getting about the same performance.

lol.... let the bugs ensue...

is there software that needs downloading for this Gameworks thing, how does it work?
(excuse the ignorance)

I could be opening a can of worms here, but that's never stopped me before so:

I whole-heartedly agree that Gies spent waaaaaay to large a part of his review talking about social issues. The fact that he gave the game an 8/10 but spent a third of the review criticising the lack of racial diversity and the portrayal of women shows that he is trying to push his agenda that, while relevant in the context of the game to some degree, overshadows the rest of his comments. For that reason, I think it's a bad review and I agree with the author on that point.

Butt...

The author of the article that Hiro posted shows that he has his own axe to grind and appears upset that Gies even mentioned the racial and feminist issues. He makes some good points about Gies' hypocrisy, but treats his admiration of Anita Sarkeesian as something worthy of ridicule. That gives me the distinct impression that he just doesn't like Gies' opinions on certain social issues and is only writing the article for that reason. He could have kept it more neutral but chose to bring his personal politics into the argument which weren't necessary to make the point that needed to be made about the Polygon article.

That's just my opinion anyway.

Nope. Its settings within the game. Ever played AC4, ACU, the Batman games or FC3/FC4? Gameworks is used in those titles as well.

Don't take Polygon reviews seriously anymore. :p They're full of SJW crap now. Polygon used to be such a nice site.

I have stopped going to the Polygon website. Their pieces on Dragons Crown, Bayonetta and now TW3 have shown that they have a particular point of view. They are welcome to this view, but I do not share it and do not find their articles resonate with me. to each their own :)

Ja. Polygon is not what it used to be. I'm not a fan of any kind of agenda-pushing though, and the author of this article is also clearly just trying to promote the antithetical opinion.

Financially it's not feasible to develop two different versions at the same time. Plus if the console versions look very different, people aren't going to buy the game. They'll cry that's it's unoptimised or a bad port.

Ironically, that's what they did for TW2. The Xbox version launched a year later, although it did look very good considering its age.

------------------------------------------------------------------

The day one patch for PS4 is 481.1mb. It fixes all the framerate issues that are mentioned in most of the reviews.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Anyone seen the 'outrage' that there aren't many black characters in the game. Sigh... I guess they've not heard of Zerrikania. Elves and dwarves are the minority groups, there's enough prejudice there. I don't think they need to shoehorn in groups that aren't prominent in the regions the game takes place.

Plus it's based off Slavic folklore after all. There isn't exactly a large non-white group in Eastern Europe.

They should accept it as it was their choice to play on the underpowered system ;)

As to the social issue this happens with witcher game release. Some complaining about sex & no "people of colour". Its just the way it is with reviewers trying to push their own agenda best to ignore them.

Frankly I am sick and tired of the gender equality and race card bullshit. The game is made the way it was made by the developers and the way they foresaw their creativity. Get over it, it's a fucking game!

For some people everything is political and must have an agenda... :/

this recap is really good. i enjoy the playful style of writing :) and the level of info and detail is spot on.

I also thought it's quite a good recap. They don't into unnecessary detail but give you all the info you need to understand the background.

Kotaku had a piece on the Dragon Age story that I found really useful having not played any of the previous DA games.

What the status of your Takealot order? Mine still shows the release date as the old one in February. I would've thought they'd be getting ready to ship by now.

It's currently showing as 'Ordered from supplier'. I expect it will go to 'Ready to ship' on Monday morning.

I'm probably the most hyped out of everyone here, and I agree with most of this. There's obvious differences between the 2014 35-minute footage and the final build, in terms of global lighting, water and vegetation. There's an interview which I can't find, where the lead technical designer says they had to cut global illumination, and replaced it with a system they built in house which mimics it. Really sucks because I don't think we'll be getting proper global illumination on a multi-platform title, this gen. The tech looks so good!

On the flip side, this has cost them at least 30 million USD to make, after all the delays. They need the money from the console versions, so they can't come out and say that it's their fault that these things were scrapped. I don't think it's as bad a situation as Watch Dogs, and I don't think they aimed to mislead people. Ironically, TW2 actually got better looking as they developed it. I think they were just over ambitious.

Regardless, the game still looks gorgeous. In comparison to earlier footage though, it does look worse. I think once they've finished all the expansions and released the Enhanced Edition, that the game will actually look better than it does now. If DX12 is even half as good as people are saying it's going to be, there's a chance they might be able to add some of the cut features back in, on PC anyway. That, or the mods will do it.

Honestly, I'm not going to be giving two shits about this when I'm playing the game. It's getting almost unanimous praise, which makes me very happy.

Look I know I'm gonna enjoy the game a lot, I've spent a small fortunate getting my pc ready for this game.
It's just a worry to see that at the end of the day pretty much all developers are going this route including my beloved CDPR.

As far as DX12 goes, I'm not sure it'll make much or any difference, because developers will still continue to make content for the lowest denominator. People ask me why I hate consoles and the answer is simple, I don't hate consoles I hate Sony and Microsoft...They throw money at developers just so the games look the same on each platform and as far as I'm concerned that is holding the gaming industry back.

So yeah FUCK YOU Microsoft and FUCK YOU Sony.
