The Witcher 2 Chat Thread

I really am enjoying the game. Just got my silver sword back so still early in the game.
One thing I do want to know from people, in the first game the dice game was better but I played a dice game against somebody yesterday and got a 1,2,3,4,5. As far as I remember that beats a triple. Or at least it did in the first one, has anybody else noticed this?

From the lowest to the highest:

Nothing — five mismatched dice forming no sequence longer than four.
Pair — two dice showing the same value.
Two Pairs — two pairs of dice, each showing the same value.
Three-of-a-Kind — three dice showing the same value.
5 high straight Five High Straight — dice showing values from 1 through 5, inclusive.
6 high straight Six High Straight — dice showing values from 2 through 6, inclusive.
Full House — one pair, plus three-of-a-kind.
4 of a kind Four-of-a-Kind — four dice showing the same value.
5 of a kind Five-of-a-Kind — all five dice showing the same value.

That is what I thought, then surely I would have won that game. I mean the rules look similar to Texas hold em up poker. A bug maybe

Erm... CD Projekt RED are Polish. Warsaw is in Poland. In Poland they speak Polish. Poland is also a member of the European Union. Poland borders Germany, Belarus, the Ukraine and Lithuania.

Poland is not, actually, part of the Russian Federation.

Just by the way.

If you're going to be pedantic about the name, you may as well be pedantic about the other, evidently less significant, details :)

Yes, forgive me, I was wrong. I should have checked my facts, but I didnt. Indeed, polska is polish. You can even have a look at their local website here http://www.cdprojekt.pl/
That is if you have nothing better to do than look at weird character set, on a webpage in another language.

Not to mention that Poland hates Russia.

If the idiot Poles had updated their language I would be able to read it faster.

According to another gaming website CDProjekt is unveiling another Witcher game at E3. It seems likely that it could be a console version of The Witcher 2.

HAHAHA this is how I felt at first when playing this game and picking the Dragon option first and was playing on Hard. I must say, once I got used to the system and a few level gained, things got much easier.

QFT! This was my exact feeling when I started. All the development love in the world a good tutorial does not make... :/

In all honesty, I still feel a bit like that, even a few hours into the game. I can't help but feel that I'm missing something that is obvious to everybody else. Everything is just harder than I think it's supposed to be, as if I'm not using the signs correctly. It kind of forced me to change the difficulty to easy, which is just ... TOO easy. I'm loving this so damn much, but a thorough tutorial would have been appreciated.

Just finished chapter 1 and wow!! It was brilliant!!
I've just started chapter 2 and MAN was it brilliant!! I can't get enough of this game!!

To tehNihilist and vixe, doesnt it borrow from the first installment? Therefore if you mastered the first game, shouldnt TW2 not be a problem, or does the gameplay work differently so much so that there is a steep learning curve? I'm yet to lay my hands on TW2

Details on patch 1.1

Internal tests of Patch 1.1 are well under way. Our current target is to release it this evening. Please note that although we are doing our best to have it ready by then, the time still may change in order to be completely sure that the patch will function properly. This is our primary concern since there are significant changes and upgrades that will affect many users.

1. Simpler and more reliable game installation and activation. Details to be revealed soon.

2. Fixed the free Troll Trouble DLC download. It is now included n the patch so there's no need to download and install it separately.

3. Fixed an issue that prevented some users from downloading other free DLCs (the ones given out with some pre-orders, special promotions, etc). The launcher now properly refreshes the list of available DLCs and allows for installation.

4. Performance improvements: approximately 5% to 30% better framerate and faster game loading for many users, depending on their individual systems and game versions. Owners of retail versions can expect the biggest improvements.

5. Fixed random crashes occurring on some systems, especially after saving and loading saves.

6. Key mapping – allows the arrow and number keys to be used for movement.

7. Added the option to invert the mouse.

8. nVidia surround vision now works properly.

9. More accurate assessment provided by the "auto-detect settings" option will help improve game performance.

10. Removed a bug that prevented completion of the “Blood Curse” quest.

11. Fixed a bug that prevented the additional link in "Extras" from being unlocked after winning the dice game against the GOG.com monk.

12. GOG.com credits now work properly.

The full list of all changes will be available upon the release of the patch. If you have experienced any issues that are not on the list above, please don't worry. We have already started working on the next patch, which will address other difficulties and bugs, including those related to specific hardware setups; e.g.. Logitech g35. You may expect this second patch to be ready next week.

Patch 1.1 will be available for all the versions of the game, both retail and digital, except for Russian. However, we would like to assure our Russian fans that we are aware of the problems with the your version of the game (thanks for your reports!) and we are talking with 1C about possible solutions.

The combat is completely revamped from the first game, so you do need to relearn it. I prefer TW2s combat to TW1. It feels much tighter than TW1s combat which was more or less fudged into Bioware's Aurora engine. The Aurora engine wasn't really designed with ARPG combat in mind. You do get thrown in at the deep end though.

Yep, the combat system is completely changed (most notably, there aren't any combat styles, such as strong/quick/group). I'm finding it incredibly difficult to handle combat with more than one foe. And the signs don't have an AoE. But I'm still early in the game... perhaps all of this changes later as you level up.

Just a heads-up the signs will upgrade to AOE if you go down the magician path, even Quenn can upgrade to an AOE-reflect.

Likewise midway in the Swordsman path you can turn your sword attacks into AOE hitting also .

So it definitely becomes easier to take on multiple enemies.

does anyone of you know why is it making?
i have ati radeon hd5770 512MB, and yes i have the latest driver

Just finished it. I took it slow... did everything... 29-hours?

Why do I feel that I lost 11-hours somewhere? O.o'

Actually, my personal rating for this game would be 8/10.

It's beautiful, it's enjoyable, I love the difficulty, the combat, the fact that it forces you to use signs, traps, etc. However, it's a miserably short experience, the console-designed inventory, journal, etc is awful. In all honesty, I expected much "more."

Oh well, it was still an awesome experience, albeit a short-lived one with a modicum of disappointment around the edges.
