Voicy's Epic WoW starter guide

New question from the resident WoW noob...

Can I have characters on 2 different servers? How do I go about creating a new Character on a different server?

Yes, you can.

When you select your characters, there is a button for 'Select Realm' (or something similar). Clicking on it will open the realm selection screen and you can then choose a different realm.

You can have a maximum of 10 chars per realm and a maximum of 50 chars overall.

What are you guys using to get decent Latancy with WoW?

I have a 384k ADSL
IS Unshaped/ SAIX unshaped/ Verizon Unshaped

Netgear Wired Modem

Windows Vista 64bit

I suffer with latency between 800ms and 2000ms

Not sure if upgrading my line would help.

I did a 40 man raid on the weekend and could do nothing just kept getting disconnected.

I was thinking of increase the size of my line. I have tried things like Gamemax, even have my own server in the UK that I have routed traffic through.

Nothing seems to work. I battle with Arena and raids do to the latency and lag.

If I even try set foot in Dalaran in the evening it is a no go and I just keep getting disconnected.

Anyone have the same problem and managed to fix it?

I recall there was a registry edit solution that downscaled latency from 700ms -> 350ms. It worked for me plus everyone else in my guild. There is a post on myBB about it I think. I'll look into it for you.

I'm currently running:

384k DSL / Axxess semi-shaped ... no other routing interventions - and I'm normally on 350ms lag. I used to get disconnected CONSTANTLY during Naxx runs on bosses like Grobbulus etc. - which Blizzard has admitted was a bug on their side.

Have a look on the WoW forums on how to rectify your client by deleting the wtf, etc. folders... (make backups though).
 
Reg hack was implemented into 2. something back in TBC... it does nothing now

I'm on a 2mb unshaped line, average latt = 380ms
 
If I were to buy WoW + Burning Crusade how many patches would I have to download and are they all hosted locally?
 
I wanna start downloading the patches now(getting WoW + TBC later this week) is 2.4.3-to 3.0.1-TBC-EU-Update the first patch I should download?
 
Are you getting the Battlechest?

I'm not sure about the exact number, but I know that the battlechest wasn't up to version 2.4.3. I think it might have been around 2.3. I can't remember how much I downloaded to get it to 2.4.3, but I don't think it was more than 500Mb.
