Watch Dogs official thread (PC and Console)

So i'm still considering picking this up now that my PC is functional again.

Has there been any developments, patches, fixes etc ?
psst... I have an AMD card (I hear it's atrocious with the drivers).

No patches yet. No new AMD drivers yet either.

My brother ordered the Vigilanty edition(for a friend of his) its stuck at customs they claiming the package is worth 20k and want 3k for customs.
Yet he has another vigilanty edition gone trough customs for only R340 just yesterday.

After finishing the game and doing most of the side missions and all the Digital trips I am gonna rain some hell down on this game.

The Good:

Its a GTA style game, So its pretty fun.
The graphics are decent.
The sound is also pretty good.
The story wasn't all that great but I def wanted to finish the story to see what happened in the end.
The city at night looks amazing.
MP is pretty fun and different.

The Bad:

The game is incredibly short (11-12 hours to finish the game and all digital trips and quite a few of the side missions)
I didn't die once while completing the story. NOT ONCE.
The side missions have little to no difference between them, Almost like it was an after thought.
The game has no replay value at all, the city gets very boring, very quickly.
MP might be fun and different but it gets boring very quickly, considering I've only come across 10 or so other players.
The police are utterly useless, doesn't matter what you do, the most you get is 3 or 4 squad cars, a chopper and some SUV cop vans chasing you, they can't drive around certain obstacles at all...lol
No Melee attacks.
No shooting out of vehicles.
You don't have to "hack" at all to get through 70% of the sections, you just run up and Press a button to kill/knock a guard out.
Although the graphics are good, its far from "Next Gen" GTA 4 at max detail looks just as good.
I put the game to the ultimate test running it on a 6 Core Extreme Intel setup (R50 000 PC) The game still ran like a dog.
The game is utter rubbish on AMD graphics cards, thanx to Ubisofts idiotic partnership with Nvidia (Yeah alienate half your customers).
The game suffers from Online game breaking bugs (Losing all weapons, skills ect).
The game has quite a few crash to desktop bugs on both AMD and Nvidia.
The idiotic cloud save system that continually can't sync properly.
The game looks NOTHING like the E3 vids from 2012.
The game is still not fixed, no patches have been released.

Ubisoft were so busy gloating about their best IP launch ever that they completely ignored bugs from day 1.
Instead of trying to fix things they were partying it up.

For a game that cost so much and was in development for so long Ubisoft sure fucked it up nicely.

Thanks for that Joker. With yours and others comments and reviews, I think I may just give this one a skip.

Obliged.

I haven't finished the game yet (so I might change my mind), but the guys from Rev3 Games have summed up the gist of my opinion of the game thusfar in their review:

Gameplay is fun enough, but mostly average; Hacking mechanics were a little disappointing; "Open world" stuff isn't engaging for long; and Jordi is the only character in the story I've found remotely interesting thusfar.

I also wouldn't say Watch Dogs is a hacking game. It's an open world action game with RPG elements (i.e. leveling mechanic), but in which you can only play one class: The Cybermancer. Actually that sounds a little too cyberpunk-ish. "Technopath", maybe?

I don't want to trashtalk the game too much, because it's not an awful game, but there is a lot wrong with it. Overall, it's just boring and feels very unpolished as well as low-budget. Here's a few of my gripes:

  • AI is horribly dumb most of the time.
  • The cops don't even try to arrest you, they just shoot you no matter what you did.
  • There is no radio stations. All music is played via an app and even worse, this app is not consistent. If you get out of a car and get back in 5 seconds later it starts a new track. Even Saints Row, which had a much smaller budget, had radio stations.
  • Hacking is ultimately nothing more than a gimmick. Hold Q to hack the world or spin the pipes around.
  • Gameplay is incredibly repetitive. I just finished act 2 and it feels like I've been doing the same thing over and over for the past 10 hours. The reasons change, but the scenarios are all the same.
  • There is too much boring filler content. This is a problem that plagues most of Ubisoft's games. There are 100s of sidequests but none of them are really unique and none of them are that much fun. They're incredibly repetitive too.
  • The story is not gripping or fun. It's not good, it's not bad, it just is.
  • The character's actions don't line up with the story. Hack someone's bank account for money, then straight after tackle a guy for stealing a lady's purse. Huh?

That's pretty much my gripes with the game. I could have mentioned the poor performance and horrible optimization, but I think that dead horse has been flogged enough so far. ;) Overall, I wouldn't call it a bad game, but it's not exactly good either. I have a very strong feeling that the studio's budget ran out long before they could develop the game they really wanted to.

Well, someone's gotta buy these games and review it so that they can save other the time and money. I just wish all the "big" reviewers and critics were upstanding when it comes to releases like this.

I must say I am playing the game on realistic difficulty and it is quite tough, you actually have to think how you are gonna clear Gang hideouts and such.A lot of complaints I see are comparing the game to Gta why do that it is not Gta.There is actual choice in this game like to kill or not to kill someone and to steal from criminals only or lawyers or bankers.I must say the hate this game gets is just not justified but i can not defend the Pc performance it is just bad I do not know who to blame ubisoft or Amd but either way you look at it someone goofed bad.Still anyone that enjoys open world games should try it you might be surprised how good it actually is .

Yep, some of the criticism is really unjustified. But, haters gona hate. As long as you are enjoying the game, that's fine.

By the same token, fanbois gona fanboi. Coin flips both ways, mate. :)

There is a lot wrong with this game and there's nothing wrong with people comparing it to games that did it much better years ago already.

So I managed to get a test version of this game, and I'm sorry, this title will not be getting my hard earned cash. Yes I have an ATi card, and it plays like SHIT!
Until they can fix these issues, I'll stay away...

... /uninstalls.

A test version? What is that exactly?
