Woo! Load shedding, woo!

We've just recorded our first loadshedding related casualty: Chest freezer went "Yippee ki-yay" on our asses. So tomorrow I go shopping courtesy of FNB's overdraft facility.

That sucks Mister 44. :( Our casualty so far has been the Blu-Ray player. At least I think it's probably because of load shedding.

Well, to be honest I saw it coming. The chest freezer hasn't been healthy over the last year. Twice repaired and the repairman said it's going to go once loadshedding hits again so I was just cheering it on after every dip. I'm just pissed that it went on the day we did our monthly shopping

I'm probably going to go off despite our schedule stating we shouldn't. Stellenbosch regularly gets screwed like that.

I'm trying to parse out the data from loadshedding.eskom.co.za for our intranet... There's lots of APIs for municipalities, but the official eskom site is the only one I can find with our data... And it all comes in HTML. Buh.

#load_shedding prognosis for today is medium for the morning and very high for the evening & dependent on the performance of the power plant

I guess we might get something for this evening

Addition:

Tuesday (21 April): The capacity available to meet that evening’s peak demand is 29 615
MW (including open cycle gas turbines) while demand is forecast at 32 020 MW.

Wednesday (22 April): The capacity available to meet that evening’s peak demand is 29
615 MW (including open cycle gas turbines) while demand is forecast at 31 986 MW.

This tweet just came through...

#PowerAlert: Eskom regrets to announce that Stage 1 #load_shedding will be implemented from 17:00 to 22:00 today.

I hope that if we're affected, it's from 16:00 or 17:00 - 18:30 again... That is preferred.

If it stays Stage 1, I should be in the clear for today. If it moves up to stage 2, then I'm out from 18:00 - 22:30

This happened yesterday as well. We were scheduled for 16:00-18:30, but they never shut us off here. I guess since they missed the starting gun (load shedding started an hour afterwards) they just left us alone.
Works for me.
