World of Warcraft - General Discussion

Feels so odd playing WoW again. I could not wait for my buddy to get the patches so on 3G I paid through my @$$ to do it. Latency is not what I wanted but I can deal with it since I used to play on US servers back in the day.

I hate this game, but I always come back to embrace...

How affordable is it on 3G? i.e. How much BW are you using per session? (General questing vs Raiding)

From what I recall, WoW didn't use that much during gameplay. I think it was around 20-30 Mb during an evening with normal questing, and that was at least 3-4 hours of play.

I have only played a bit on my laptop with my 3G recently, so I don't know if it has changed.

Only been back a month, and don't have any 80's again so I am not sure how much it uses for raiding. For general questing it does not seem to be that much, very workable.

You need to remember though that most of those changes are specifically aimed at the LOW levels, cause as has been mentioned, most players quit wow even before they reach level 10, so now Blizz spiced that shit up abit, and whaddya know? More ppl will now be playing wow, I implore you however to go and check out trollbiscuits vids on the new dungeons.

Will check those vids out thanks, but I am still wary considering Blizzard said WotLK was going to get harder, and it certainly got easier.

The thing is, over the time I have played WoW they have seriously started to spoon-feed players, which pisses me off (even the high lvl content). While I do believe in ease of access, I also believe that if a game becomes too easy it becomes a pointless immature fart joke.

Maybe they are giving the consumer what they want, but I notice it makes for a very hostile community since everyone thinks every other person is a total noob regardless of gear or level, it never used to be like that since a few rights of passage (if I can say that), used to exist in certain forms. Before people worked HARD to gain access to raids and good items. Now anyone can get in, gold flows like water, and little means anything anymore.

Even WoW in its Vanilla state was very easy but still had challenge, but with each passing expansion I notice it decreases almost patronizing the players, of which many lap it up - go figure I guess.

Well after that, back to leveling my Shammy, after checking them vids out (maybe they will change my mindset). ;)

Question: Have never played wow. But I'm thinking of starting with the release of Cataclysm (since the 2 new races have levels 1 -15 starting areas). Will you have to own vanilla, burning crusade & wrath of the lich kind and then buy the expansion, or will there be like a battlechest with just that which you need to play Cataclysm?

I don't know if this question is answerable, but since Cataclysm is supposed to come out this year I hope someone knows!

You will need vanilla, BC, Wrath to be able to get the new one working I suspect. At the moment the battlechests is only Vanilla and BC with wrath loose.

You will need to have vanilla as well as all of the expansions if you want to play all of the content. It's also likely that you will need to have WotLK before being able add Cataclysm, just like you need BC for WotLK.

I don't know if they will make a new battlechest that has from vanilla to LK. It would be good, but consider that the current battlechest (vanilla + bc) was available for quite some time before LK.

i found this:

http://www.zapsonline.com/43086-pc-world-of-warcraft-battlechest-including-wrath-of-the-lich-king-mezapstbc.html

and

http://www.take2.co.za/games-world-of-warcraft-battlechest-includes-lich-king-pc-7302137.html

the only thing is:

That if I had to buy this battlechest for R350...and start playing...then "the cataclysm is going to come" and everything is going to change. i.e. you can no longer access the world of vanilla anymore. So it seems to me that Blizzard should in "fairness" almost release cataclysm as its own game that could be augmented with vanilla,bc,wotlk etc. I'm not sure if I'm missing something here but thats how i understand it.

ETA seems to be 17 September! (of the new battlechest)

Cataclysm 80-85 with archaeology and the new zones and instances = the expansion you have to pay for. the 1-60 revamp will happen to everyone regardless of which expansion you have. The game is being updated there is no reason for it to be standalone.

Yah, I thought about it this afternoon and realised that the only stuff I wont have buy not buying Cataclysm straight up is the 2 new races and the level add on etc. So I mean it will still be like starting WoW for the first time. Although after reading about the Goblin and Wereguy race it makes me wana buy it and start that way nether the less.

hey guys, I'm planning to start playing official wow. Played on private servers for about 3 years :P
Just a few questions !
Whats the lag like.. 'ms' wise?
What server has the most SA guys on. EU servers or US servers?
Should I get it now or wait for catacylsm?
Thanks :)

ms depends on your internet account. Im with WebAfrica and I get a steady 300ms without lowerping or battleping.

EU servers. And then again it depends, I know a load of saffas play on lightbringer - there is a big horde and alliance guild.

Get a battlechest now and then get cat when its released.

Oh yar forgot to say I got my hands on a CE - Preordered and confirmation D

Because the layout recently is EXACTLY the same as WoWhead's. Not just the catalog, but the individual items too.

Individual items is kinda a no-brainer.

They don't have the exact layout, if you mean in terms of the menu. There are differences, but not that much. As an example, Wowhead has subcategories for specializations in professions, while MMO Champion doesn't.

It looks the same because it's a natural way of categorizing the info. I do prefer Wowhead for looking up specific items/quests, but for news I prefer MMO Champion.
