World of Warcraft - General Discussion

Hi chaps, Please forgive my n00bness. Bought the battle chest today, installed both discs, strangely enough when I fired up the game it runs the wotlk cinematic and once the game loads and I am at the menu, its says wotlk.....is this normal? I cant be running wotlk as I haven't bought that?

Also when running the updater it says I am on v3.1.0.976.
 
I would not worry, just update and play.Try get WotLK as soon as you can though.

Busy installing mine now, but I need to recover my password :p Then I need to head over to a buddy and get the patches.
 
Well then I have no clue >_<
Been like a year since I last played (deleted ALL my characters in rage and vowed to NEVER return). I eat my words, what a fickle toad I am ;)

That is strange. My battlechest is at version 2.3 or 2.4. I started playing WoW when it was at version 2.4.3 and I still had a couple of small patches to load.

It might be that the newer battlechests have updated versions, even though they it's still only Vanilla and BC. I think the cinematics is included in first patch for WotLK, which is 3.0.1 or 3.0.2.

After patching, your game will have all of the content for WotLK, even if you can't access it, since you need to have the same version as the server to play on it. If you didn't have all of that, you wouldn't be able to see the armor that the 80's have.

Your ability to access content is dependent on your battle.net account. If it says that you only have BC, you'll only be able to access the old continents and Outland. If you try to go to Northrend, you'll be teleported back to where you boarded the boat. So currently you won't be able to access Northrend and won't be able to create DK's.
 
Well I fixed my account, can log in. Suggestions for servers?

Looking for an active server that is not overly crowded, also seems my buddy wants to go Alliance (I used to roll Horde, but no worries). He seems to want a PvE server, buuuut I may be able to convince him otherwise since I am easy.
 
He won't be able to create a DK immediately anyway - regardless of WOTLK or not :p.

Besides, DK's are for gheis and sailors.

Going to let the update run, hopefully it wont be to long. I am already on v3.1.3
 
If I still had my client I'd join up and roll a toon with you, buddy - but unfortunately I gave it up. Haven't played since March I think.

Well pleased to say that I didn't have to install 10 million gigs of patches, left the updater running over night and by about 12 this avi it was done.

Setup my char and even done a few quests. Wicked :p

@Voicy, still downloading LOTRO, probably by next week I will be up and running there.

Hey dude, would it be at all possible if you burned the client and patches etc. on to a couple dvd's for me?
I could remunerate you for petrol costs, or i could hook you up with a pizza or something. I don't have a large cap...

Glad to hear u are are set up! What server did u roll on? I am on Lightbringer (Alliance) so is Ocu...so if u want help, that's the place to go to!! Plus we in a awesome SA guild called Braaivleis :)

Been playing for a few hours, enjoying it so far. I join a server starting with an M, cant rem the name off hand, Omega recommended it, it is for new players it says. Im sure I will join you guys at some stage with a new char.

Feels so odd playing WoW again. I could not wait for my buddy to get the patches so on 3G I paid through my @$$ to do it. Latency is not what I wanted but I can deal with it since I used to play on US servers back in the day.

I hate this game, but I always come back to embrace...
 
I found a nice VPN .... Battleping

Used it last night ... and my ping was around 250ms
I have a 384k line and i'm using a normal isp account .... no unshaped.

It worked very good for me ... if anyone is interested.
 
Ran it today and I am very happy with it, and when they start charging for it I will continue to use the service. Playing on 3G is erratic and this seems to have taken a lot of that away.
