The iPhone 7 was recently revealed, and Apple fans around the world are clamouring for details on the new device.
The new smartphone is surprisingly durable, with both the standard and Plus models boasting an IP67, meaning that they can survive underwater for 30 minutes at a depth of 1m.
This means that the iPhone 7 should be able the occasional splash and brief submersion.
However, the folks over at iFixit decided to test the true physical limits of the iPhone 7’s waterproofing and submerge it until it died.
The iPhone 7 was dropped into a fish tank with its timer on in order to monitor how long it survived the sub-1m submersion.
The results were definitely surprising, with the iPhone 7 showing no problems after being submerged in the fish tank for about 8 hours.
iFixit even successfully charged the device for an hour while it was submerged.
Days after the ordeal, the iPhone 7 is still functioning normally.
