Need For Speed Rivals is gearing up for release on PC. The game has been getting good reviews on consoles but as my PC gaming brethren will know, this means nothing.
Need for Speed Rivals is capped at 30FPS on PC – and while this is arguably not the worst thing that could happen, it’s still not great.
The frame rate of Need for Speed Rivals has been demonstrated to be linked to the “speed” of the gameplay, and it seems the physics and animation systems are also somehow linked to the framerate. The result of fiddling with console commands to unlock the framerate results in a comically unplayable racing game. Funny, until you remember this is a $60 AAA game.
PC gamers expect the ultimate version of a game on their platform – we can push games to 60FPS and beyond, so why shouldn’t we? Certainly not because a developer made a poor design decision aimed at locking console frame rates, making the PC port a mere afterthought.
Luckily, there’s still time to cancel your preorder.
Some love him, some loathe him, but I respect his opinion and analysis – gaming critic John “TotalBiscuit” Bain has taken the game to task, identifying a number of issues, including the frame rate problem and a poorly designed UI.
The bottom line from TotalBiscuit: PC gamers should avoid Rivals.

I agree 100% with every gripe. Loaded it 3 times and can’t be arsed to go through that intro again with no mouse control and no support for my PC gamepad. It’s a piss poor design and a piss poor port onto the PC and insults us all.
