Local prices for the GTX 980 Ti are higher than we’d like

Now that we know that NVIDIA’s newest GTX 980 Ti is the must-have GPU for virtually any video gaming scenario, including 4K gaming, what we need to know next is: how much?

As it turns out, it’s going to cost you right around what we expected, or at least around the upper echelon of the predicted figures.

Using international prices, we estimated that the GTX 980 Ti would cost between R9, 000 and R12, 000.

As it turns out, according to a few local listings, it will cost you anything between R10, 999 and R11, 999 – that’s a lot of money. But it’s also a lot of tech contained within this latest GPU.

It’s got enough raw compute performance to outclass the GTX 980 by between 10 and 20 fps at 4K – 3840 x 2160 – resolution. And it’s hot on the heels of the much more expensive GTX Titan X in almost every scenario – the Titan X, by the way, is a R16, 000 card.

Local online hardware retailer RebelTech has listed two GTX 980 Ti’s – the MSI GeForce GTX 980 Ti as well as the Gigabyte GeForce GTX 980 Ti. They’re priced at R10, 999 and R11, 999 respectively.

Keep in mind that both of these cards come with codes for Batman: Arkham Knight.

It’s also worth mentioning that MSI and Gigabyte are far from the cheapest brands in SA, so there will likely be cheaper GTX 980 Ti’s available in the future.
