Now that we finally have some idea of what the Nintendo NX console is, we can take a look at what kind of hardware the lightweight console will be packing.
According to Eurogamer, the Nintendo NX will feature the Nvidia Tegra graphics processor.
Although it makes sense to use a mobile processor in a portable console with detachable controllers, it does mean that the NX will not be able to compete with current-gen consoles, never mind the upcoming Neo and Scorpio devices.
Development kit versions of the Nintendo NX are currently using the Maxwell-based Tegra X1 chip, which is the same processor featured in Nvidia’s Shield Android TV console.
The graphics hardware is relatively dated, but should be more than powerful enough for the lightweight and portable platform of the Nintendo NX.
It is important to note that the Nintendo NX may end up using a more advanced Tegra processor based on newer architecture, but currently uses the X1 processor.
