Xbox One may support original Xbox through backwards compatibility

In replying to a question posed over Twitter, Phil Spencer revealed that Microsoft is considering backwards compatibility for the original Xbox on the Xbox One.

They’re obviously focused on having the Xbox 360 backwards compatibility up and running, but it looks like it may eventually happen.

We’re not going to pretend like this is nearly as big a deal as backwards compatibility for the Xbox 360, for some that’s hardly even a concern in itself.

The original Xbox is a pretty old console, and a lot of its best titles are available via other means.

To put it bluntly, very few will ever make use of backwards compatibility for the original Xbox.

This is just an uneducated guess, but it’ll probably be in the thousands, which isn’t that many when you consider the Xbox One’s installer base.

It’ll be nice to have, but really, we’ve got a craving for Lost Odyssey and Blue Dragon.

And come the functionality’s release, that’s November worldwide, we’re going to do just that. Or at least we will once those two are supported – they won’t be at release.
