Xbone - Game Questions

That could very well be it.

Unfortunately that does seem to be the case:
Note Sharing your screenshots will only be available if you have an active Xbox Live Gold membership, or if you’re performing the action on a home console for another Xbox Live Gold member.

I know you don't want a gold membership but I saw a special yesterday if you are interested. It was for a 7 month membership. Can't remember the price but I can find it if you want.

Thanks Soli.

It's not that I don't want Live Gold, just that the price for it and considering I don't have any games that I would play MP on Xbone. I can't really justify the purchase just to now use a share feature.

That's true. But think of all the sexy free games you'll be getting. I know you prefer gaming on the PS4 but sexy free games! Forza 6 multiplayer against DieGrootHammer! Sorry I'm so evil.

Also, i'm not sure where your Gold Subscription comes into the mix, but i do know Forza 6 has been very dodgy with the screenshots. It took me day for my screenshots to "upload" (to wherever it needs to upload). Only once it is "uploaded" then you get options to Share/Save it (on the settings menu) .

So from what i gather, you first take a screenshot/video clip and it's local. While it's local you can't do squat with it. It will then upload to Xbox servers in the background, this seems to be extremely unreliable and totally unknown as to when and how long this may take. Once it's in the cloud , THEN you will get additional menu options to share/copy it to the rest of the world.

It is totally absurd how Microsoft has done this, it's the WORST EVER way of sharing screenshots and video clips...i mean come-on seriously, you can't even copy the friggen stuff off the Xbox with a USB stick. You'd think MS would see this as big marketing opportunity...guess not.

How do you guys switch off your Xbone?

Is there a best practice for this that ensures it stays in a sleep or hibernate state so that it still downloads updates while in this state?

Is there a difference between holding the home button and selecting turn off or touching the power button on console?

I've switched off my console using both of those ways, and ever time it stays in hibernation mode and keeps downloading in the background. Only if you go into setting and turn off fast boot will the console turn off completely. That or if you unplug the power brick. So either way will keep the Xbox downloading in the background, while it looks like it's off.

Using the controller or pushing on the console both put the console into hibernation mode. You can turn it off completely by keeping your finger on the console touch thingy for a few seconds, untill you hear a soft click sound, this is also the best thing to do before you unplug the power brick for any reason.

What I dislike about the new interface is that when you double tap the XB1 icon, the main screen goes all dark when the side pane pops up.
How the heck am I supposed to see the pic I'm taking,it's ridiculous.

For all you that may not be aware, this week is a pretty awesome week for the Xbox One.

This week ALL Xbox One owners will be getting the new Dashboard (12 November) should you don't have it already. I've been rocking the dashboard for a while now, and it's glorious. It's so much faster than before, much less clunky and much easier to get around in. They've really done good with it. The total size of update is about 1.15GB so be ready for that.

Today we are getting the full list of 100 games that will be available on Backward Compatibility. Remember that the moment you have been updated to the new Dashboard, BC is active for you. There are a lot of speculations on which games will be the first ones on the list, and hopefully some classics makes the list. With this, ALL Xbox 360 games that are free with gold as of this month will be compatible with the Xbox One, which means that's 4 free games per month.

How much of this will only be applicable to those who have XBL?

From their FAQ:

Is Xbox Live Gold required for backward compatibility?
Xbox Live Gold is not required for Xbox One Backward Compatibility. However, it is required for any standard Xbox Live Gold feature like online multiplayer.

Also, the new dashboard is will also be pushed onto any Xbox One, regardless of Xbox Live status.

If you buy from the Xbox store with the CC, it's R50 for 1 month.

That makes it quite expensive. Much cheaper to buy a year's worth. However R50 is not bad if it's a month with good free games. So you actually have a point there.

Interestingly, PrepaidGamer.com has 3 month codes for Xbox Gold for R199, which comes to a cost of R66.33 per month. Thus buying Gold directly from the Xbox store is cheaper for 3 month. However, they also have 12 month subs for R465, which comes to R38.75 per month, making it the best value per month for Xbox Gold.
