Cricket Thread - not the bugs but the buggers playing it :)

Well done to Broad on causing an Australian collapse and to seal the series. I was really hoping for an Australian victory though, the English are getting too cocky.
Pity about the SA A loss though, managed to get close to the 400 mark so it was a good effort.

Anyone following the Zimbabwean test match verses Pakistan? Zimbabwe on the brink of something special, maybe. Early in the test match, but they have been performing admirably.

Oh really? Hope they win :D I remember I was at the match where they beat Australia (T20) a few years ago.

Another match abandoned between the Poms & Aussies. Rain washed it out. Still confused and trying to figure out why they play cricket in England.

Zimbawe square series with historic win

Zimbabwe 294 (Masakadza 75, Taylor 51, Junaid 4-67) and 199 (Mawoyo 58, Rahat 5-52) beat Pakistan 230 (Younis 77, Manzoor 51, Vitori 5-61) and 239 (Misbah 79*, Manzoor 54, Chatara 5-61) by 24 runs

It took a long time coming. The last time Zimbabwe won a Test against a team other than Bangladesh was in 2001, but they stayed patient through the final day even as Misbah-ul-Haq threatened to dash their hopes to win the second Test and square the two-match series.

Zimbabwe began the day just five wickets away. Pakistan weren't too far either: they needed 106 with Misbah still around. By lunch it became two wickets and 47 runs with Misbah still fighting it out. However, despite some quick runs post lunch it took Zimbabwe just one over with the new ball to mop up the Pakistan tail and spark wild celebrations in the ground, in the dressing room, and possibly all over Harare. Tendai Chatara bowled that over, completing his maiden Test five-for.

After the rugby nonsense this morning, this made me smile again. Way 2 go Zim!

And the downing of the Bulls possibly helped a bit? Did the Breezers get a red card?

Nicely done Zim. On top from the get go.

Pakistan have some thinking and work to do.

Seeing as they're up against the Saffers next, they're going to struggle if this is the standard they maintain. Although they might feel more comfortable with the conditions in the UAE.

Last time we played them in the UAE the series ended in a draw. Hopefully more dominating this time from SA, like when Pakistan toured here not so long ago

I am always suspect if Pakistan loses a match against the minions of cricket.

Match fixing rumours will always rear its head, I just hope that this is not the case here.

Yeah I missed it. And I have missed at least two days of picks. Worst. No better place to start than from the bottom :D

Don't worry. The qualifiers aren't covered by Superbru, so they only start on Saturday with the Mumbai vs Rajastan game.

Great news. I'm looking forward to the tournament. Going to be some great games. Close encounters and difficult decisions made over the picks.

T20 has always been very difficult to predict on Superbru. It's very rare that one team has a clear advantage above the other one. I can't wait to watch all these matches. I need to go read up on team selections before I'm going to make my prediction for the weekend. But out of curiosity, what team are you guys supporting? I'm gonna back the Lions!!

I'm going with the Lions but will be hoping the Titans do just as well. Local conditions and crowds will give the IPL teams advantage but I'm expecting to see one of the Aussie teams to get into the final. First games will help make future picks a little easier.

Wake-up, little cricket thread.

So SA win the ODI and T20 series against Pakistan but only manages a draw in the tests. Could this be because the focus may have shifted to the shorter forms now that Kirsten is gone as coach, or was SA just rusty during the first test? After the (short) Pakistan and India series, may just have a better idea.

Are you planning on creating a Superbru pool for the ODIs, McT?

Yeah, can do. Will do it tomorrow morning and send out the invites through Superbru. If I can, I'll post the linky here before heading off to a Psychometric (dreading that).
