Lord of the Ringsâ„¢ to become Free-To-Play from September 2010.

F2P Launch Date Confirmed for the 10 September, points shop to be launched on the 08 September for those of us in game.
 
Im not 100% sure if we get our 1st points on this day, but what i do know is that their are no retro points, due to the way they designed the point system. If they had to give points to everyone for the deeds completed already some people would have a couple of hundred thousend points owed to them.
 
So i'm guessing that i'll have to download a new client on the 10th of Sept? The beta client won't be converted?
 
No, Servers will be down for upgrade on the 07.10.2010, they will then patch the current client and add the new update as well as make the F2P changes. On the 08th they launch the new server plus the shop for Current VIP's already in game and the F2P guys then get full access on the 10th.

LOTRO Free-to-Play Head start, September 8th

Current Subscribers and returning players will be able to access LOTRO Free-to-Play on the North American servers starting September 8th! The servers will be brought down on September 7th in preparation for the head start program. When they return on September 8th all current subscribers and returning customers will have full access to all Free-to-play features, the Volume III, Book 2 epic story, and the new Enedwaith region two full days before the official launch! You’ll also be the first gain access to our new servers and claim your name or start building your new kinship.

That is in reference to a head start release on September 8, which means Enedwaith and F2P will be fully in place on US servers two days before F2P opens to the wider world. Whether or not we get a similar head start here in Europe remains to be seen, but Enedwaith is certainly included for the September 10 launch.

How many gigs on disk is the LotRO client version 3.00? I bought the compilation pack and it is on version 2.something... I've been googling like mad but I get no joy :(

I need to know so that I don't get capped FFS

but there is no unequivocal nomenclature for this game's stupid update/patching system. Some updates are called "books", Mines of Moria is called "Volume II". I don't know how to check which "book" I'm on and the launcher updater downloads at .5 megs/s saying that I have downloaded 100 parts of an 11 thousand part update with no mention of how large the parts are!!! wtf are they thinking?

Uber frustrating!

Yeah saw it was very confusing was hoping since you got it you might understand all the crap names they had for the stuff.
 
oh well, the update is 10% underway and the folder is hardly much larger, the uncertainty was just getting to me. thanks man
 
can you work it out.

Does it tell you how much it has downloaded in megs or just the persentage?

If you have the megs you can work out more or less how much are still left.
 
it goes free to play on Friday, i personally am quite excited to play my first mmo.

@Crzwaco : there is no indication of meg size, but and it won't be accurate, I could time how long it's been going for and multiply that by the megs/s download rate.

edit: not all "parts" are of comparable size :/ i'll just have to live with this idiocy

I honestly wouldn't know.

It took me 2 days on my 4Mbit line, purely because it's a buttload of small files which do not reach full download speeds. I did give InSanity the updated client on 4xDVD's though. Maybe check if someone in your area on here has it.
