Lord of the Ringsâ„¢ to become Free-To-Play from September 2010.

When you log on, the newsfeed says this:

Codemasters Online today announces that the launch of The Lord of the Rings Online (LOTRO) Free to Play Store and the latest content, Book 2; Ride of the Grey Company will now launch across Europe later than expected.

"We are really pleased with the performance of the game and excited about the response to Free to Play from our players." said Mike Rowland, Producer of LOTRO. "Given the complexities and challenges faced in the preparation and implementation of the new store to work within our infrastructure, we feel more time is needed to deliver the high level of service our players have quite rightly come to expect. As a result, we have decided to delay launch to ensure that we can support the massive increase in players that we are anticipating and deliver them a Free to Play experience like none other."

so what exactly do I need to give this game a try? I noticed a LOTRO Beta client talk on the Webafrica forums and I see a client there thats 9GB.. im assuming you'd need that beta EU client and then you are ready to play? - once the EU Free to Play is a go? or how would it work.

not sure but I think we would probably ask them to upload that one and delete the beta one.

My beta account expired 3 day's after I got the beta key fml.
 
So is everyone playing on Snowbourn? That's where my mid level hobbit resides so it will be great if everyone is playing there.

Yep...pretty much.

I got a lvl 52 Warden, 43 Hunter, 16 Dief and randoms on there. Very chilled server.

Of those who listed their names on that server, none are really playing anymore though.

So is there decent activity still on the server? I just hope I still have all my stuff since I haven't played in years. My biggest loss would be my awesome steed. :D
 
20,000+ updates... Have not had a chance to let it run and update fully.
11,080 to go... O_o Got the retail box for Cheap at musica where I work, get 45 free days gameplay, house and steed, as well as other little things.

Yep, R60 for the gold edition. Got it too. Very cool.

Updates are around 10GB. We're jamming on the Snowbourn server.

Woah 10GB?? Since I started updating yesterday (it was at 8000+ of 28000 this morning when I checked) and then only expect it to be done by late Saturday or Sunday morning. I was hoping to start playing tomorrow. :(

Cool, as soon as I get online... within the next century, will join! :)

Let it run while I was at work 260% done when I got home. About 1k files to go hopefully Monday I will be able to get on.

Hey guys, I'm also on Snowbourne. I have a lvl 17 Champion dwergie, he's pretty cool. Plox add me I have no friends who play this game, I tried to get my lil bro to join, but he is too busy being ranked 12 in his platinum league in sc2 and trying to finnish his 1st year BSc, nublet!

EDIT: His name is Belegruth lol almost forgetted!
 
So it looks like everyone is spread out over different servers. I'm currently playing on Evernight, lv.15 Elf Minstrel.
 
hi all

if i buy the lorto compilation, R177 (at cna) how much data would i have to download extra and can i start playing on that account (it comes with 30 day subs) and when F2P comes out just continue with that account?
