Nvidia 3D Vision

My dealers quote only got back to me now cause he had to source it

Display : 23-inch South African Alienware OptX? 3D Full HD Display R8179.50

And thats from drive control

It's going well so far! Nvidia really has a lot of work left to do on the 3D Driver, that's no lie. But it does seem to work 98% of the time and when it does, it's pretty cool. I still stand by my opinion, it's good for RTS and RPG games. It's NOT good for FPS games - it's pretty distracting.

Neo that is what keeping me back on getting this. I mostly, 95%, play FPS and your comment of it being distracting wonder if it worth it.

If you would to ask me if I was second guessing my purchase of this (admittedly expensive) equipment, my answer would be an immediate: "NO".

I just installed another game: Titan Quest. I am freaking BLOWN AWAY with what it does for the game. Can you say "immersion"?

FPS games also look really good. But for me, it's so "wow" that it distracts me. So please, don't blame something for being TOO good. lol.

There are 2 downfalls with this tech that I don't see being solved too soon:

1. The drivers are "okay", but until more people start using this system, Nvidia's not going to give it the attention it needs.
2. When the Stereoscopic 3D activates, you lose 50% of the light coming from your monitor. This SUCKS because your monitor is already in "super bright" mode and then looks dim when a game is running. Whether it's a glasses or display panel issue is a case for argument...but something needs to be done about that aspect.

So if you can afford it, I'd say go for it.

As for the idea about an article for mygaming.co.za - I'm gonna do it :)

Thanks Neo. Well well well. My mind made up , will safe up for this setup . Were getting the screen anyway so it only the glasses. But i need a second GTX 480..mmm

Well, a second GTX 480 would have been nice. But it doesn't ADD anything to your games. If you have a large collection of older games like I do, having a new toy that breathes life into all of those games again is priceless.

now all we need is someone to a buy a Zalman 3D setup so we can compare the 'dimness' that is resultant from the glasses...

Actually using a Zalman 3D monitor to compare against the Nvidia 3D Vision system is like comparing apples to oranges. The Zalman 3D monitor uses a different way of producing the images and to be very honest, the image quality sucks REALLY hard on the Zalman. So yeah, even though it will be brighter and you won't have the dim issue...it still doesn't make it better. In fact I think it's worse.

Reason the Zalman never took off like Nvidia's 3D is because Nvidia has the budget to advertise and hook people.

I have and use the Zalman 3D setup (since I have an ATI card), it actually suffers from the same problem. Its not quite the same as brightness, but things are definitely dimmed when using the glasses.

Got my 3D setup today from computersonly. Was hooked from the demo, and this is coming from a guy who thought he'd never buy into this gimmick.

Cool about the monitor! Small pity about the dimming... Do you experience any ghosting on your Zalman? What model is it?

Used my setup for the first time tonight, and I'm more than impressed. Gives a whole new dimension to the games I've tried. The only game I struggled a bit with at first was COD4, but by my 3rd game I was hitting my headshots again :)
