RIFT : Planes of Telara

Yeah I paid 50$, think that's like R350. The client was errrr 18 or 19gb. Since then there were probably about 300mb worth of patches.

By the way, this is very important: There are a lot of phising scams with this game. You will receive e-mails or tells ingame that you qualify for a gift for instance, and it will lead you to a site that sounds rather legit (something like rift-game.com, instead of the actual riftgame.com site) and it will be an exact replica of the actual site. Type in your details to log in there, and goodbye account.

Are you sure it was that much! Most online sites are talking about 8-9GB

What a mission.

At around midnight my download FINALLY finished after 2 days with an avg speed of 8kBps yesterday...only to tell me the download is corrupt.

Did a recovery and it pulled another 1007MB patch through the night...thankfully this went much faster and the game launched at 7:30 ... just in time for me to go to work. :(

you might have a rift in your dslam .

That is why I like Steam. Prices are same than most shops around here sell the games for and the downloads are fast (on my mweb line at least). Grabbed the main client via Steam during head start and then patched it up quick. Patcher only failed once and waited for me to respond to some stupid message box.. now that is dumb, it should silently try to recover. Anyway, not been having too much problems with the patcher, except when I try to update on our IS line which is always grabbing at below 20kbs while our mweb line does it at 300+ (is mweb business though).

Yeah, I would love to be able to afford a 4mb line :(

Explanation on Coin Lock:

Update on Hacked Accounts
We are aware that there are still issues with some of you being hacked. This is a top priority for us here at Trion and the team has been working to address the situation. As we posted last week, there have already been a number of updates put in place. We are also introducing another function that should make it into the game early this week.

Coin Lock

Users will be coin locked if they log in from a significantly different location or computer.* When their account is coin locked, they will be sent an email to the address that they have on their account (their login email) with a code to enter into the game.

Users will see the Coin Locked icon in the spot where their tutorial button shows up. Deactivating the tutorial tips will not turn off the Coin Locked button.

While in a Coin Locked status, users will have the following limitations:
• No access to the auction house
• No ability to SEND mail. Users can still receive and view mail as well as remove items from mail
• No ability to SELL to vendors. Users can still purchase items from vendors
• No ability to salvage, runebreak or destroy items
• No ability to trade
• Users can continue to play and gain coin and items, but cannot get rid of them.

If you are Coin Locked, simply click on the Coin Locked icon and enter the code found in your email from Trion.

*You will only have to enter the code once for each computer at a given location. If you play from multiple locations, or on multiple computers, you will have to enter your code the first time you log in from each new location or computer.

If you log in and your account is coin locked, check your email! Someone may have logged in from another location with your account.

If you do not receive the email, please click on the Coin Locked icon and click the “Resend” button to have the email resent to you.

If you cannot access your email or you are otherwise unable to change your Coin Locked status, please contact Customer Service.

We're also working on the addition of two-factor authentication at the login level, which will let you use an app or a cell phone as a way to ensure that you're the one logging on. (You may have heard of this in other products as a SecurID or an Authenticator.) We'll be sharing specifics on that as soon as we can as well.

If you have been hacked:

Contact Customer Support immediately. The CS Team is responding as quickly as possible to restore accounts for those who have been hit.

We assure you this matter is very important to us and we are doing everything we can to resolve your issues and safeguard your account.

I wonder if it's going to be as brilliant as NC's current security feature ... where you need to answer you account's security questions when you log in from a different location (ie. a computer not "authorised" to log in). Because of the fact that we get assigned dynamic IPs I get to answer those questions every damn time I need to log into my Master Account. In addition, it means that multiple IPs are now "authorised" to log into my account.

hmm. yeah. proxy server heaven. sigh sigh.

Edit: I assume the Rift server sees the proxy server not your IP?

Pretty good feature. It's amazing how hard they are trying to hack peoples accounts on this. Never seen anything like it. Every day I get a pm from someone saying I must login at some random website.

Been having an odd error myself lately.

It has happened twice now for no reason where I log in and receive a message saying some files are corrupt and I need to run recover. Initially I did, but it downloaded far too much, and since I use 3G I was not too happy. Right now I am still getting the error, but I am seeing no problems at all ingame - pfft, who knows...

The only problem I've experienced so far (twice now), is my controls locking in one or other direction for a few minutes. I've had it lock in forward and left turn, which made playing an effort in frustration.

You guys tried Googling those errors? Perhaps (hopefully) there are fixes.

@tehNihilist, I found this on the forum:

Okay, I guess I found the solution.. Which was with the patching service as with everything else apparently. If it takes even a single dive down to 0.0 kb/s the file in question WILL become corrupt and cancel the patching, either during or after the download. I solved the issue by plugging the ethernet straight to the laptop instead of using wireless. Download rate stayed constant with the computer plugged in and it skipped verifying the content instantly, and entered the game with no further issues.

Hope this can help others in similar situations.

It is always a good idea to back a MMO client up after a patch. That way if files go corrupt then you can simply copy the backed up version over and avoid having to download the files again.

Thanks Ginmaru.

I am not sure if it is that however, since others having the same issue are saying other strange things. Either way the game is working 100% so far, so who knows.

And yup, I keep backups just to be safe :P It is like a whole one patch out, but I am curious, so I am leaving it as it is now to see what happens.

New patch out:

RIFT 1.02 - 3/18/11

COINLOCK FEATURE -- Account Security
* If your account is logged in from a significantly different location, your characters will be 'Coin Locked' until an additional ownership verification is made.
* A Coin Locked account will receive an e-mail to their registered account address containing a code to enter in-game to unlock the account.

* A Coin Locked icon will appear on the bottom center of your screen if your account is in this state.
* While you are Coin Locked, characters on your account cannot:
- Access the Auction House.
- Send Mail (can still receive and view mail or remove items).
- Sell to vendors.
- Salvage, Runebreak, or destroy items.
- Trade.
- You can continue to play and gain coin and items, but cannot get rid of them.
* Characters cannot be deleted while an account is Coin Locked.

* If you are Coin Locked, click on the Coin Lock icon and enter the code found in your e-mail from Trion.
* You can also have Coin Lock emails re-sent to your email address by clicking the button on the Coin Lock interface.
* Once you have verified ownership from a new location, that location is whitelisted for future account access.
* If you cannot access your email or are otherwise unable to change your Coin Locked status, contact Customer Service.

MAIL SPAM FILTERING
* Reporting mail as Spam now works a lot more like the chat and /tell spam system.
* Sending mail that the game filter recognizes as spam results in an additional coin charge.
* Mail you receive that has been flagged as spam will go to the Spam tab of your mailbox UI.

GENERAL
* Made a number of changes to how NPCs react to higher level characters:
- Characters under the effect of Exposed no longer have an additional chance to be dismounted.
- Reduced the minimum aggro range of monsters significantly below a character's level.
- Increased the rate at which aggro range reduces as a character's level increases relative to a mob.
* Fixed Forest Disruptor companion so his footsteps are not as loud as a full-size Treant.
* Cleaned up a case where Satchel of Guardian Spoils or Satchel of Defiant Spoils could turn up empty at certain levels.

ZONES
* Fixed unlocking of Expert Dungeons that were taking an additional day to unlock after the NA daylight savings time change.
* Runic Descent: Expert: Corrected an issue where this instance could end with players still inside.
* As a result of the above change, the Captured Soul NPC will be re-enabled after this update.
* Moonshade Highlands: Rational Ward: Fixed issues with quest not updating.

RAIDS
* Greenscale's Blight: Ongoing tuning for Duke Letareus, Infiltrator Johlen, Oracle Aleria, and Prince Hylas.
* Greenscale's Blight: Prince Hylas is immune to player abilities that reduce healing taken.
* Greenscale's Blight: Fixed an issue that could cause Greenscale's protective Life Aura to occasionally not spawn.
* Akala: Reduced health of Stone Wardens in the Akala outdoor raid to make the first phase possible with 10 players.
* Akala: Akala's Aegis of Stone and Gift of Laethys buffs can no longer be purged.

62MB

Game's up and running and I'm rather enjoying it.

I've got a lvl7 Defiant (Ranger/Bard/Blade Dancer) Rogue & lvl7 Defiant (Pally/Void Knight/Reaver) Warrior that I'm toying about with.

When I have more time I'll roll a guardian with you guys to see the flipside of the coin.
