SimCity 2013

Bwahahaha!

I just bought Simcity 2013 on Origin anyway, though.

Lol, awesome. Maybe I'll get the latest Cities in Motion DLC and Cities XL Platinum And the latest Tropico 4 DLC.

I should stop now.

I wouldn't pay more for $10 for Simcity (5) at the moment.

Meh, I'm just seeing Simcity for what it is. An MMO. I don't really mind all that much. As long as the servers are stable when I start playing on Sunday I'll be happy.

I agree with this, I don't have much of a problem with always online, the only reason i'm tentative about sim city is because i hear the area you have to create a city is tiny. More like sim town size.

Yeah the cities are very tiny. Busses and cars will just make u-turns out of the blue instead of turning or continuing straight at an intersection. People clip through vehicles etc. I think a bit more attention should have gone into the finer things like this as well. Especially if you consider the size of the city.

I'm going to be brutally honest here and say the only reason I have any interest in, and have pre-ordered, Simcity 2013 is because of the social features. I don't know, technical issues aside it sounds pretty fun. I probably wouldn't have picked this up (unless on sale) if it wasn't for the social features.

I can understand why people who were fans of the previous games are disgruntled, though.

It's hardly an MMO, I will however give you the MO. The largest region I've seen has 11 or 12 places where you can build. Not nearly enough to call it massive :P

Fair enough, I can understand that view point as well. From what I've seen there are some really fun stuff in the game which I would have enjoyed to try out with friends, but every person needs to weigh the pros and cons up for themselves. The same thing that happened with D3.

Funny enough though, all of my friends and colleagues bought D3. Not a single one of them has bought Simcity.

Largest region contains 16 cities. We've already got 16 people in for a region over on the NAG forums. Can't wait any longer. If I get a monopoly on a resource I'm extorting the crap out of it. :D

Can you actually get everybody online at the same time however? :D If not, their cities will be frozen in time and won't be doing anything.

I'll wait and see if the server issues are fixed for the EU release before I start speculating about things like that. No use slagging the game off further for things we can't be sure about yet.

I'll only be able to play on Sunday regardless.

I wasn't actually referring to the server issues at all (but funny how your would think that :D) I was actually just thinking about the logistics of getting 16 gamers from all around online at the same time. It's not really like WoW where you can sub in somebody else - because people would get upset if somebody else just takes over their city.

Eh, isn't that the case with any multiplayer/online game? If you want to organise a guild event in an MMO you usually have to organise it beforehand so people know what time to be online, otherwise having enough people online at the same time might be an issue. Same thing here, imo.

Yes and no. With Simcity each guy builds his own town in his own method, similarly to how you develop a character in WoW. The more apt comparison would be if you need 16 characters for a raid, but you have to give somebody else access to play with your character because there are only 16 characters...

Or not? You can still play without other people playing, unlike a WoW raid where playing solo is impossible. Just send an offer to another city and the next time that guy comes online he'll receive it? I find it hard to believe that EA would not have made provision for this.

Either way, I'm not a big fan of

so I'll step out of this thread and wait for the game to release before criticizing anything.
