Well ... they are restarting from the beginning, so they have to cover the story covered by the original anime first (I believe that was the first 11 volumes), before carrying on - I don't see them catching up too quickly.
Time will tell.

So i just finished Shippuuden ep 162.
Somehow Naruto masters Sage mode in (what appears to be) a few days, whereas Jiraiya - the Legendary Sannin - Naruto's master, who was old enough to be his grandfather, could not completely master Sage mode in his entire lifetime...
How fucking stupid is that?

Did a bit of a Code Geass marathon over the weekend - the second season was epic. Plot twists galore - I loved every minute.
There's a 3rd season due in January 2012 - I doubt it's a continuation of the current series though. Seems to be a related spin-off or side story, but it begs the question - why?
