The official Witcher 3 thread

I'm not too phased on the graphics and I've always said I'd enjoy it and will be enjoying it, it's still a great game (never denied that). I'm just finding it hard to enjoy it when I keep crashing just when I start getting sucked into it.

i had some crashing, but seems to have resolved it as follows :
Hairworks OFF
Set to FULL SCREEN (proper, not borderless window)
Nvidia control panel, power management, set to ALWAYS (or whatever the option is, that is not adaptive)

Yeah I sat and tweaked the graphics through the Nvidia panel and ini folder ( more than a hour ) and that seems to have sorted out the gpu utilization.
The textures in game are all over the place, some of it is fine but other textures are just rubbish, I came across a dog that had no face or legs only long lines with the textures completely messed up. Haven't had any more crashes though so I think I've sorted that.

There is a massive patch for pc coming in the next 5 days or so...apparently so will wait and see..

Onto the positive...Enjoying the game a lot, I'm about to hit lvl 11 with around 12 hours of play and taking it slow, I'm trying to do every side quest before moving on to the next part of the story.

Haha I only just hit level 5 last night :p. Hopefully I can get in some decent hours over the weekend. If anyone is interested I found some tweaks that give me mostly 60+ fps will full hairworks enabled.

this point sums up what a lot of us have been saying (from a logical, business, fiscal perspective) :

He also said that suggestions that the PC version of the game was held back by the console editions is accurate, but only to a point: Without the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 releases, he continued, The Witcher 3 as it is wouldn't exist on any platform, because the studio simply couldn't afford to make a game of this scale exclusive to the PC

I'm very close to hitting to lvl 12 and about to go to Novigrad for the first time, but first I'm gonna finish up the lower level monster quests in the area. I also set my difficulty down to Story only, after dying repeatedly on a quest where I had no health items and would have lost a big chunk of gameplay if I loaded an earlier save to resupply. I'm probably gonna set it back up today and only lower it again if I'm really stuck again because the easy difficulty setting is MUCH easier than normal.

While exploring yesterday I came across a bandit camp with a prisoner in cage and after killing all the bandits I set the prisoner free. Turns out he was a barber and he offered me a free haircut and/or shave if I'm ever in his village. Problem was I hadn't discovered his village yet so I had no idea where it was. So I decided to follow him back to his village. It took us about 20 minutes or so to reach the village and I had to fight off some wolves and wild dogs on the way, but it was awesome. Didn't shave my beard, but decided to go for a haircut.

Also figured out that you do actually do need to equip your skills in the slots on the right hand side of the character menu to use them. The mutagens you place there only increase the boost to your stats. I got the skill to deflect arrows and no matter how many times I tried to do it it didn't want to work so I eventually I saw the skill wasn't equipped in one of those slots and after doing that I can now deflect arrows as intended. I'm sure some (if not most/all) of you knew this/figured it out already.

you could try this :
http://www.reddit.com/r/witcher/comments/36lmve/config_for_gtx_970_1080p_60fps_hairworks_on_ao/

regarding the game, couple questions

1) Who buys honeycombs? Saw the notice. Got some. Do i sell to the herbalist Tomira ?
2) Regarding the trophies. (possible spoilers, but very early in game, so should be ok)
I have one for killing Griffon and another for killing the ghost near the well. The griffon one says 10% dismemberment chance and the other one says 5% XP gain. I have that XP one equiped but not sure its making any difference. I killed Wolves and only for 2XP (with it equipped). Is it not being noticed as XP awarded is too tiny ?

Okay here they are.

1) Go to: installation directory\The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt\bin\config\base → rendering.ini, search for: HairWorksAALevel and change it to 2
2) Disable AA in the game and enable FXAA in the nVidia control panel, this gives you nearly 10fps
3) Set shadows to low (there is barely any difference but you gain another 5-10fps) See Here
4) For Ambient Occlusion use SSAO instead of HBOA+ (another 5-10fps)
5) The rest of the settings are at your discretion I have everything on High and nothing on Ultra

Yeah, you've got that right. :D

Because I don't have the time to do so at work, and I figured if he already had it he could share it. I did thank him for the previous recommendations, and don't consider myself to be lazy at all.

Thanks for the info.

This is exactly what I thought. I will stop with my tomfoolery now. :)

Go away for two days and you miss 10 pages of discussion.

This quote from that Eurogamer article about the downgrade is really interesting. I'm sure the article has already been posted here.

The billowing smoke and roaring fire from the trailer? "It's a global system and it will kill PC because transparencies - without DirectX 12 it does't work good in every game." So he killed it for the greater good, and he focused on making sure the 5000 doors in Novigrad worked instead.

Can't wait for DX12.

I'm going to wait for next week for them to deliver that new patch which they're saying is going to fix a lot of the bugs and performance problems. Hopefully it will.

You're only going to continue playing after the patch is released and installed?

Also: this is currently a hot topic so it should be no surprised how big and quickly this thread is growing.

I think Imp is first finishing TW2, like me, before playing TW3 [emoji41]

You are correct. Doing my final playthrough (I think this is my third time) of the game. I lost my old saves and want all of my choices to be recognised.

Yup. It's annoying not being able to maintain 60FPS. It dips for no reason, and hopefully the next patch will fix it.

----------------------------------------------

By the way, does anyone here have this problem with the GOG client? It tells me I don't have enough disk space to install TW3, but it's already installed, and I just reformatted my PC so my 1TB drive is bascially empty. :wtf: Anyone have a solution? It won't let me download the DLC's because there's not enough disk space, apparently. Very strange.

As a side note, do the achievements work on Galaxy?

Just got my first full set of Witcher gear (Griffin set) and I've also started the quest for the second set, but I'm still too low a level. It's such a relief to no longer be walking around in mismatched armour, although this set is already a bit weaker than the stuff I find in the world.

I haven't had a single issue with Galaxy as yet, though there have been a few updates since I loaded it (the weekend before the Witcher 3 release). Actually a valid point too, I haven't taken notice of the achievements if they're unlocked or what. I see Galaxy also has a "Friends" section.

Is it just me, or does the game stay in memory once you've quit? I have to end the process everytime I stop playing in the Task Manager.

I also can't equip new armours because the game crashes when I do that. Yeah... how these got past CDPR QA team, I have no idea.

Also, it's 2015 and this game doesn't have full support for 16:10 resoultuions. Come on! The main menu has black bars and in game, the hud won't move up to where it's supposed to be. It's in the middle top half of my screen because it's acting as if it's in 16:9 mode.

I didn't have any problems with Galaxy on Win7, but I just installed Win8.1 and now it's being annoying. Maybe it's because Win8 seems to be more OCD with the Program Files folder. I'll move things around and see what happens then.

My game closes normally for me when I (myself) choose to close it. But I have this weird crash where it seems to overlay everything, I can't even ctrl+alt+del because the windows is behind the game window, but I can see my start menu, so I'm forced to log out and back in in order to close the program.

Are you sure it's not a "Run as Administrator" issue or the UAC?

I've turned off UAC. I've tried running the Galaxy client as an Administrator, but it doesn't make a difference. I see quite a few people are having this problem on the GOG forums.

Back to Witcher 2 then. I'm liking Witcher 3 quite a bit from the 30 minutes I played. On the third hardest difficulty, the game really is challenging. Hopefully this big patch is out soon.
