Wednesday, 7 September is a massive day for tech news, with both Apple and Sony expected to make massive announcements with regards to their upcoming products.
While its easy to guess that Apple will unveil a new iPhone and iOS 10, it’s a little more difficult to guess what Sony has up it sleeves.
This is what we are likely to see:
Confirmation of the PS4 Slim
With unboxing videos already appearing across the internet, all that’s left is for Sony to officially confirm the existence of the PS4 Slim.
Given the fact the console has already been made available in retail boxing to reviewers, we also expect the console to release relatively soon (if not immediately).
While a visual redesign is apparent (it’s now smaller with rounded corners) it’s not quite clear if it will bring any internal changes like the Xbox One’s HDR capability.
A new DualShock 4 Controller
Following the aforementioned unboxing videos, we already know that a new DS4 controller is coming.
The only noticeable difference with this new controller is the moving of the lightbar so that it is now visible on the front of the controller.
Once again internal changes are suspected, with this new DS4 reportedly offering better wireless range and functionality.
The PS4 Neo
This is the big one.
We’ve known that the PS4 has been coming for a while now, but its confirmed existence will set it up directly against Xbox’s Project Scorpio.
Depending on how powerful these consoles are and how well they are received, this could also be the end of numbered consoles as we know it, with manufacturers instead choosing to focus on upgradeable releases.
Perhaps most exciting of all, most leaks until this point point to the PS Neo still releasing this year.
PS VR
We already have pricing and release dates for PS VR, but expect the new peripheral to still get plenty of stage time.
We are hoping Sony uses this conference to address how exactly the PS VR will be powered, how it ties into the PS Neo, and the exact specifications behind the goggles.
New games
It wouldn’t be a Sony conference without a look at some upcoming games.
Expect a look at some known upcoming exclusives (most likely The Last Guardian and Horizon: Zero Dawn) as well as one or two unannounced titles.
Personally, we are hoping Rockstar games make an appearance, a rumour that has carried over from this year’s E3 conference.
