The MyGaming board games thread

Oooooooh shiny!

How do the mechanics compare to standard Risk?

First off, one of the players has played many versions of Risk, and said this is by far his favourite. And I had to explain the Mass Effect story to him, as he's not a (non-board) gamer.

The big differences are if there are 4 or 5 people, it becomes team based. 2 Alliance, 2 Reaper, 1 Cerberus. Cerberus just needs to control all the orange labelled planets to win. Alliance needs to find the crucible (one of 5 chips on the board), and Reapers get the Harbinger. The Harbinger can destroy a planet (with a card), and the Alliance needs to beat it first before attacking the planet it is guarding.

Seriously, I thoroughly enjoyed this one.

(Note: The Normandy and Grunt are from my collection, they're not part of the game ;))

Ah, thanks. It sounds a bit different and at least it's not just a tacked-on skin but rather a full-themed variant. Looks awesome.

Those figures look very cool next to the game.

Ya, I've played Clone Wars risk as well as the basic game, and I have to say, it was horribly unbalanced. They did a really good job with the balance on this one.

Ya, next time I'm planning on playing Cerberus, so I'll have my Miranda out to be my Cerberus cheerleader :D

Only got a lot of sleeves :D still waiting for mini American FFG sleeve stock though.

Designing some card trays and a game box for my EH set :)

I'm looking to do build trays this weekend, but I am not sure exactly what material to use. I am going to go to an art shop and see what they have, does anyone have any suggestions?
Well if you can find it, 5mm foam core board. It's what most people use in videos. 3mm works as well, just a lot thinner obviously and you might need some top quality glue.

I'm using LibreCAD to design plans for trays to be cut from 5mm MDF board. Kinda like the ones found on E-Raptor and Prawndesigns.

Thanks for the advice!

For all the Pretoria Magic players, do any of you guys play regularly at Battle Wizards or Outer Limits?

I play pokemon at battle wizards regularly. Normally they have a large crowd for magic players also which I can't understand since pokemon is the superior option.

If you come to battlewizards on a Friday I'll teach you to play pokemon and prove it.

i'm just ragging you man. I have actually played Pokemon before and I concede that it is a good game (one that borrowed some of the better mechanics from Magic), I'm just not into Manga or Anime of any kind and it Pokemon doesn't appeal to me at all. Magic is unfortunately tied back by some legacy mechanics, but that doesn't really hurt the game too much, it's still an amazing game.

Also, I'm busy this Friday night, but hopefully I'll be able to get to BW during the holidays this year, or at the latest for the pre-release of Oath of the Gatewatch next year. If I see a lone Pokemon player, I'll say hi.
