Nvidia 3D Vision

Good news so far. My monitor has been "dispatched from supplier". I guess that means they were successful in ordering it from amazon and it's on its way to South Africa. I'll probably have it in about 2 weeks? Here's hoping :)

Probably a week or so Neo. Every time I've ordered from WantItAll the slowest part of the process is waiting for the suppliers in the US on "rare" goods, it normally arrives in SA quite quickly afterwards. Hmm... wait, I did once have an order that sat in customs for like a week (go SA!), but that was only once.

Hi guys,

I've promised to keep all of you up to date with this and that's what I'm gonna do!

I was just informed by my beautiful fiance that my monitor arrived and she'll be bringing it home with her tonight (I'm on leave and she's at work). So from tonight onwards I'll be able to fill you all in what's going on and what my impressions are regarding this whole 3D Vision setup. Keep your eyes on this thread!

Okay so I got everything up and running last night. I fired up a game of DotA and my mind....was....blown. It was like playing a brand new game. I cannot begin to tell you what it's like playing a game in stereoscopic 3D. It's insane, it's epic, it's flippen brilliant.

Unfortunately, that's where my praise stops.

You see, after about 3 hours of gaming in 3D without a single hitch, my PC crashed. This was nothing new and I just restarted it. Since then I have NOT been able to get my Stereoscopic 3D working like it use to. I've been online with this issue and found numerous people complaining about the same thing. Now, all of my games, when trying to run in 3D mode, causes my glasses to flicker so horribly and in an un-rythmic way that I'm surprised I didn't get epilepsy.

I've re-installed drivers, done system rollbacks, switched things off, turned things on...I even did the hokey pokey, NOTHING seems to be able to get my 3D back to what it was like when I used it for the first 3 brilliant hours.

Guys, stereoscopic 3D gaming is THE way of the future. I'm sure of it. Anyone who has experienced it will testify that it's the biggest leap forward in gaming since the joystick controller. It's THAT good. But it seems that support for this product and PROPER DRIVERS are basically non-existent. Many people are complaining about this issue and Nvidia are throwing us all the finger - once again.

Is Stereoscopic 3D gaming all they make it out to be? YES - no doubt about it.
Can I recommend this to my fellow gamers? NO - I wish this was a different answer, but it's just too expensive to get running and it's way too "iffy".

My suggestion is to way until Nvidia release PROPER support for this product. Or even better, wait until ATi releases something similar that actually works.

Okay I've tried pretty much everything so far to get the glasses working again. No luck. I'm going to use my fiance's PC tonight and install one of my Nvidia cards in that PC and see if the glasses work properly again. If they DO, then it means there is a pretty serious driver problem that has occurred on my PC but at least that can be fixed by a format possibly. If they do the same thing on her PC, well then it means that either my glasses or my IR emitter has broken for some reason.

O man you got me all pumped..then the fall. Hope you get iti sorted. What cards are you running? SLI?

I'm running 2x GTX280's in SLi and then another 9800GT for dedicated PhysX. Maybe it's because I've got so many 3D cards in my PC that it's getting confused for some reason. I don't know. I really tried everything and I looked for answers everywhere on the net.

I'm going to resort to my last effort of trying it on my fiance's PC tonight and I'll make a decision from there.

Yes hope you get it sorted. When i was reading up on Nvision people were saying that SLI causes issues also. Have you tried disabling SLI?

Yip. That was one of the first things I tried. Trust me when I tell you I've tried everything that anyone has suggested about this problem. At the end of the day it's one of two possible issues. First is possibly some sort of driver problem that has occurred. Second is the possibility that either my glasses or my IR emitter broke for some strange reason.

The only way I can now rule out hardware failure is by taking my monitor and 3D glasses kit to a completely different computer. I have 2 choices with that as well, either my fiance's PC sitting right next to mine, or a PC at a friend's house that already has a Nvidia graphics card installed capable of 3D Vision.

I'll try both of those before I come to a conclusion.

If my glasses / emitter appears to be faulty, I'll bite the bullet and get ANOTHER pair from Amazon. Then I'll end up with either 2 glasses, or 2 emitters that are 100% working. I'm hoping I end up with 2 working glasses.

But to be honest guys, I've my hardware became "faulty" after 3 hours of working correctly, I would seriously advise against buying the kit from Nvidia until they up their game a LOT - but let's wait and see what the outcome is.

Something which does, definitely put my completely off this technology is the sheer IGNORANCE from Nvidia when it comes to support for this product. They simply don't care - which is a damn shame.

Yes that is a pity....reminds me of my Eyefinity experience and the lack of support by ATI/AMD. It seems they push something out that looks awesome and the early adapters like yourself and me with eyefinity suffer as they dont support the product or it does not run as it supposed to

Pity the glasses dont work on normal 60hz LCD's . I see guys using the cheap cardboard glasses to get 3d on games also.

I think those lazy buggers are just sitting back collecting our information and then waiting for US to provide fixes for their issues. It actually peeves me off a LOT hearing that you're getting the same attitude with your EyeFinity setup. WTF is going on with these suppliers? It's enough to make me stop upgrading my PC altogether and just sticking to my consoles - at least you get support from console makers!

The only reason why I am SO upset is because I've seen what 3D gaming can be like. Dude, it's freaking brilliant. If you can get it to work, you'll NEVER want to play without it again. As far as the concept goes, it's magnificent. But the support is shooting this new technology square in the balls. I hope Nvidia's offices burn to the flippen ground!

Yip well i am still contemplating in getting these. Eyefinity was awesome but so many glitches killed it for me. But this 3D vision and the way you described it sounds so worth it. Pity the LCD's can t be bought here. You got the Acer? Wonder if Incredible Connection can get it as they love Acer

They can only get what Acer South Africa supplies them with. If you ask for an item that they don't stock here in SA they immediately refuse to help you. Actually pretty pathetic of Acer South Africa if you ask me. I'm hoping the stories of Rectron coming to the 3D Vision party materializes. That would be AWESOME.
